Palma police arrest man over alleged anti-LGBTI threats

National Police have arrested a man after five people said he threatened them with metal bars and sticks and directed homophobic and transphobic abuse at them in Calle Manacor, Palma, Mallorca. The alleged confrontation happened in the early hours of last Saturday, after several calls alerted police to a fight. Officers found the group of five at the scene.

According to National Police, the man, who was wearing white, had started an argument shortly before patrols arrived. Other officers searched nearby streets and found him with his head covered by a hood, crouching between cars. Police said he appeared to be trying to avoid them.

When officers approached, the man allegedly acted in a threatening and aggressive way, gesturing with his arms and throwing punches into the air. He was restrained after officers checked his identity and corroborated the accounts of those involved.

Police arrested him on suspicion of making threats and committing a hate crime, before taking him to a police station.
