Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands: MÉS per Mallorca rules out a Spain-wide alliance for the 29 November general election, but leaves open a Balearic-only pact. Its parliamentary spokesperson, Lluís Apesteguia, and Més per Menorca spokesperson Josep Castells set out the position on Monday, after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced an early election. Their federation, Ara Més, also includes Ara Eivissa.

Castells says any coalition must be limited to the Balearic Islands so it can speak independently for islanders in Madrid. Apesteguia says voters with pro-sovereignty, environmentalist, feminist and left-wing views will have an option on the ballot.

The parties’ leadership bodies must now negotiate their candidate lists. Castells says they will approach groups they have worked with before, but no alliance has been settled.
