A batch of Arkan sesame paste contains salmonella: Spain’s food safety agency warns on 27 October 2026 that anyone with an affected tub should not eat it. The batch first went to Catalonia, Madrid and the Basque Country. It is unclear whether it reached Mallorca, Spain; distribution to other regions is possible.

The product is Arkan Pure Sesame Tahini from Egypt, sold in 400-gram plastic tubs. The affected batch number is 0257502493, with an expiry date of December 2027.

Malta’s health authorities raised the alert through the European food alert network. Spain’s Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has passed it to regional authorities so they can check that affected products are removed from sale.

Anyone who has eaten the batch and develops diarrhoea and vomiting, particularly with fever and a headache, should go to a health centre, the agency says. These symptoms may indicate salmonellosis.
