Madrid, Spain: Francina Armengol honours police officers and parliamentary staff on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, saying they commit to public service for life. The ceremony at Spain’s Congress of Deputies marks Santos Ángeles Custodios 2026, with recipients admitted to the Order of Police Merit. Politicians, the Congress president says, choose public service for only part of their lives.

Armengol singles out the National Police unit that works with the Congress of Deputies, the Court of Auditors and the Office of the Ombudsman. She also thanks officers’ families for supporting them through the uncertainty that comes with police work.

This is the last ceremony of its kind in the current parliamentary term, Armengol says, with elections called for 29 November. She closes by thanking the police unit, which has recently changed its head, and staff at all three institutions for the work they do.
