€500,000 fund backs Balearic artisan machine repairs
A €500,000 fund is set to help artisans across the Balearic Islands repair machinery. Marga Prohens, President of the Balearic Government, announced the funding round on Monday during a visit to Ciutadella, Menorca. She said it answered requests from the sector.
Prohens toured the Homers shoe factory with Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the Minister for Business, Self-Employment and Energy. The company began making shoes in Ciutadella in 1969 and has kept its work tied to footwear production for more than five decades.
Industry plan puts Menorca in focus
Prohens said industry is vital to building a more diverse economy across the islands. The government wants the sector to gradually regain the weight it once held in the Balearic economy.
That approach will feed into the Balearic Islands industrial master plan for 2027 to 2031, now being drawn up. The government says businesses from every island and the sector itself will help shape a policy aimed at current challenges and the years ahead.
Menorca’s industry, including its long-established footwear businesses, is expected to have a prominent role. Separately, the government is preparing €4 million in support for Menorca industrial firms.
The funding is intended for modernisation and digitalisation projects, helping companies update production structures, bring in new technology and improve their processes and competitiveness.
