Mallorca artistic skating: 307 compete in Palma
In Palma, Mallorca, 307 artistic skaters compete this Saturday and Sunday: all ticket proceeds go to two organisations. The 29th Trofeo Ciutat de Palma takes place at the Joan Seguí municipal sports hall, with athletes from 24 clubs across the Balearics, Catalonia and the Basque Country. This weekend’s contests cover level nine in the Elite, solo dance and free skating categories.
Among the competitors is Mateus Vargas, the 2025 European youth champion. He also finished fourth at the junior world championships in Paraguay in October. Izadi Ruiz won both free skating and solo dance at the 2026 European Cup in Germany, while José Sampol was runner-up in the Spanish championship and fourth at the European youth championship in Italy, Palma City Council says.
Nine national and international judges from Catalonia and the Valencian Community will score the contests alongside five regional judges from the Balearics.
Saturday’s events run from 09.00 to 13.00 and 16.00 to 20.15. Sunday’s contests run from 09.00 to 12.00, followed by a closing ceremony, medals and the participants’ traditional parade. All ticket revenue will go to Asociación Senegal de Mallorca (Asema) and Zaqueo.
The trophy began on 16, 17 and 18 October, when skaters competed across levels one to nine in all categories. This weekend brings the level-nine contests.
