Mallorca arts staff seek better jobs at two colleges

In Palma, staff at the Higher Conservatory of Music and the Higher School of Dramatic Art are seeking better working conditions. The ANPE union is standing in works council elections at both centres next Friday. It wants to negotiate a new improvement agreement with the administration for all employed staff.

ANPE also wants a say in rules being drafted by the Government for arts studies and higher artistic education. The union says it wants to know how the new rules will affect the Balearic Islands and improve teachers’ conditions.

For planned new facilities, ANPE is calling for infrastructure suited to higher arts education, with dedicated spaces and resources. Its negotiating priorities also include a professional career path, equal conditions for specialists and tenured staff, and measures to make staying at the centres more attractive.
