Mallorca honours 41 Balearic athletes – 17 won gold

In Palma, Mallorca, 41 Balearic athletes receive recognition on Tuesday, 27 October: the Balearic government honours their achievements in different sports between June and September. At the Consolat de Mar ceremony, 17 are recognised as gold medallists, ten as silver medallists and 14 as bronze medallists.

The event is called Terra de campions, or “land of champions”. Balearic government president Marga Prohens says it recognises not just results, but the hard work and persistence behind them. She thanks the athletes’ coaches, clubs, federations and families for their support.

Prohens says the government had wanted to hold the ceremony for some time, but finding a date when all 41 athletes could attend proved difficult. She calls them the islands’ best ambassadors.
