Five Mallorca schools test ways to prevent back pain
Five schools on Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, are testing a campaign to help pupils prevent back pain. The Balearic Back School and professional associations for nurses, physiotherapists and sports science graduates announced the campaign on Thursday, 5 November. Two more schools, in Eivissa and Maó, are taking part in the trial.
The Mallorca schools are San Vicente de Paul in Inca, Cooperativa d'Ensenyament Aula Balear in Palma, IES Sant Marçal in Sa Cabaneta, Cooperativa d'Ensenyament Es Lledoner in Felanitx and IES Mossèn Alcover in Manacor. The other two are IES Santa Maria in Eivissa and IES Cap de Llevant in Maó.
Teachers are central to the plan. They will receive materials to help them teach pupils, from the fifth year of primary school to the fourth year of compulsory secondary school, how to prevent back pain. Organisers will check how well the campaign works at all seven schools. They want it to reach every school, and the materials are already available to download free from the Spanish Back School’s website.
