On Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, baker Mauro Benseñor shares his business story with around 150 students on Friday, 16 October. They gather at the Balearic Islands School of Hospitality for a class during Bread Week 2026. Afterwards, they get to try products from Forn de Barri, the bakery he co-founded.

Students from the hospitality school and the Josep Sureda i Blanes, Juníper Serra and IES Calvià centres attend the session. Forn de Barri now has three shops on Mallorca, in Fornalutx, Sóller and Palma. Across the Balearic Islands, more than 1,200 vocational students in cooking, pastry and baking have taken part in talks about working in those trades, according to the Balearic Islands Ministry of Enterprise, the Self-Employed and Energy.

The Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency also puts schools in touch with bakers so students can arrange placements in bakehouses. It says the scheme has been running for two academic years. Alongside the Association of Bakers and Pastry Makers, the agency manages the ‘Pa d’aquí, forn i tradició’ label. Its 270 member businesses have their own bakehouses, offer at least two kinds of traditional bread and make 70% of the products they sell.
