Mallorca bread week puts 30 bakery job requests in focus
Mallorca hosts the launch of Bread Week amid a hiring squeeze: a government job board for Balearic bakeries has drawn around 30 requests in five months. The Balearic Ministry of Enterprise, the Self-Employed and Energy reported the figure on Wednesday, 14 October, as the Bread Week 2026 programme was presented at Can Moranta bakery in Consell, Mallorca. Bakeries are looking mainly for bakers, but also for shop staff.
The Balearic Regional Development Agency set up the online job board for bakeries belonging to the Pa d’aquí, forn i tradició label. Bakeries can post vacancies, while applicants can see details of the job and the business. The agency also sends listings to vocational colleges that teach cookery and baking, so they can reach former students seeking work or a change of job.
Bread Week marks World Bread Day on 16 October. Its programme includes a guided visit to bakeries in Pollença, Mallorca, and bread workshops for primary school pupils on Mallorca and Menorca.
Across the Balearic Islands, 270 bakeries belong to the label. Each offers at least two kinds of traditional bread and makes 70 per cent of the products it sells. The government runs the label with the Balearic Association of Bakers and Pastry Makers, which also works with it to help new people enter the trade.
