Balearic airport power-sharing bid survives dissolution
Mallorca’s Més per Mallorca helps keep a bid for shared control of Balearic airports on the table: the proposal survives the dissolution of Spain’s parliament. The Parliament of the Balearic Islands put forward the plan, and the Congress of Deputies elected on 29 November will inherit it, Europa Press reports from Madrid on 18 October.
Spain’s government initially blocked the bid. It argued that shared management would cut revenue for airport operator Aena and require compensation. The government later withdrew its veto after pressure from Més per Mallorca and Francina Armengol, the president of Congress and a candidate for the Balearic Socialists.
A second Balearic proposal would bar people convicted of harassing minors from starting or continuing work that brings them into regular contact with children. In all, the next Congress will inherit five proposals from regional parliaments, two reforms of regional autonomy statutes and seven citizens’ initiatives. The report gives no date for a decision on shared management of the Balearic airports.
