Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands have taken in €247 million more than they spent by the end of August 2026. A year earlier, that surplus was €40 million. Spain’s Ministry of Finance released the figures on Friday, 30 October.

The surplus amounts to 0.49% of the islands’ economic output, up from 0.08% in the same period last year. Nine other Spanish regions also recorded a surplus by the end of August.

Spain’s wider public finances tell a different story. Excluding local councils, public authorities ran a deficit of €31,183 million by the end of August, 7% higher than in the same period in 2025.
