Mallorca, 2 November: €125 million in inflation aid hangs on the Balearic Islands’ 2027 budget as the People’s Party (PP) presses other parliamentary groups for a deal in Palma. The party wants the budget and its spending ceiling agreed together, with no concessions on unrelated issues. Deputy parliamentary spokeswoman Marga Durán says talks with the groups began last Friday.

The Balearic Islands’ Council of Government has already approved the spending ceiling. But Durán says that step achieves nothing without an agreed budget. She says the PP is negotiating budget spending, not other matters.

The proposed budget also includes tax cuts related to housing. Balearic Islands president Marga Prohens announced those cuts and the inflation aid during the General Policy Debate. Durán says the measures are important enough to warrant a deal and that the budget, if approved, would be the largest in the islands’ history.
