Balearic budget 2027: Vox demands old deals first

In Palma, Mallorca, the Balearic Islands’ 2027 budget faces a hurdle: Vox says it will back the plan only if the government delivers on earlier agreements. At a parliamentary scrutiny session on 3 November, Vox spokeswoman Manuela Cañadas demands a timetable. Vice-president Antoni Costa says he will negotiate budget matters only.

Vox sets terms for budget talks

Cañadas wants tax cuts on housing and cuts to spending she calls ideological or politically unnecessary. She is making those demands before talks on the limit for government spending, which must be set ahead of the budget.

Costa, the Balearic government’s minister for Economy, Finance and Innovation, wants the talks kept private and says the government will not cross its red lines. He accuses Cañadas of breaking that discretion by airing her demands.

Rising prices bring a second dispute

PSIB spokesman Iago Negueruela says people are struggling to make ends meet. He wants more help for workers on seasonal contracts whose season has ended, backing for a proposal to top up Balearic pensions, free university enrolment and more support for people needing care.

Negueruela argues that a planned 125 million euro package for economic sectors resembles one approved in March, even though the seasonal workers have now finished work. Costa says his government has mobilised more than 300 million euros in a year to tackle rising prices. In the coming days, he plans to present the package to economic sectors, saying it is meant to ease inflation’s effect on people’s shopping baskets.
