Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, looks set to start 2027 under the existing regional budget: the government has halted talks on a new one until after the 29 November general election. Government spokesman Antoni Costa announced the pause in Palma de Mallorca on Friday, 6 November. He expects the current budget to be extended when January begins.

Costa said talks with parliamentary groups had started on the understanding that they would remain discreet and focus on the budget, including a proposed spending limit. But he said signs this week suggested the negotiations were being used for party-political purposes.

On Tuesday, Vox spokeswoman Manuela Cañadas urged Costa in the Balearic Islands Parliament to honour earlier agreements. Costa accused her of failing to keep the talks discreet.

The government plans to consider resuming negotiations after the election. Costa said a new budget cannot take effect on 1 January 2027 because it would already need to be before parliament. He has not ruled out passing one later.
