Balearic budget clash: PP doubts Vox wants a deal

In Palma, Mallorca, Vox says it will not negotiate the Balearic Islands’ budget until the regional government acts on measures agreed for the previous one. The People’s Party (PP) doubts Vox wants a deal. On 4 November 2026, deputy PP spokeswoman Marga Durán urged every parliamentary group to approve the spending cap and budget after a meeting of group spokespeople.

Vox announced its position at the last parliamentary sitting, and its spokeswoman Manuela Cañadas set out the conditions. Durán said Vox had negotiated discreetly for weeks when it wanted an agreement in the past. In her view, public conditions set before talks had instead ended up as excuses not to approve a deal.

Durán also accused parties on the left of standing aside from the budget debate, including discussion of higher spending allocations. She said the positions taken by both Vox and the left worried the PP, and again called on all groups to take responsibility for getting the regional finances agreed.
