More than 700 children across the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, stand to get help with childcare costs: 713 applications have received provisional approval under the ‘Cheque canguro’ scheme. The decision was published on Thursday, 5 November, according to the Balearic Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue.

The aid covers care before lessons and after lunch or the school day. It pays towards care and supervision at schools or linked facilities during the school period, including early-years and special education centres. The 713 applications account for nearly 155,000 euros in provisional awards.

A separate part of the scheme, which helps pay for hiring someone to care for a child, has given 21 applications a provisional yes, worth more than 70,000 euros in total. Applications for holiday camps, holiday schools and other care services are still being processed; no provisional decision has been published for them yet.

For morning care and holiday programmes combined, the limit is 1,000 euros per child. Families can split that amount between the two.
