Balearic courts have 133,000 cases still open
Around 133,000 court cases remain open across the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, at the end of the second quarter of 2026. That is 13.4% more than a year earlier, despite a fall in new cases. The figures come from a report released on Wednesday, 21 October, by Spain’s General Council of the Judiciary.
Fewer new cases, fewer resolved
The islands’ courts received nearly 48,000 new cases between April and June, almost 5% fewer than a year earlier. But they resolved around 43,000, down 19.5%. They had started the quarter with nearly 128,000 cases already under way.
Judges issued nearly 11,000 judgments during the quarter, 19.7% fewer than a year earlier. For every new case received, the courts resolved 0.9 cases, below the Spanish average of 0.96.
Civil cases make up the largest share
More than 78,000 of the open cases are civil matters. Nearly 37,000 are criminal cases, while more than 10,000 concern employment and social disputes and more than 7,000 are administrative cases.
The figures cover the Balearic Islands as a whole. The report gives no separate total for Mallorca.
