Balearic exports jump 12.5% as energy sales surge
The Balearic Islands export goods worth €1,802.8 million from January to August 2026, up 12.5% on the same period last year. No other Spanish region records faster export growth. The figures come from Spain’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business and were reported by Europa Press on 20 October.
Imports rise too, by 14.6% to €1,260.5 million. Even so, the islands sell €542.3 million more abroad than they buy, up from €488.9 million a year earlier.
Energy drives the increase
Energy products account for the export surge: their value climbs 74.8% to €742.1 million. Chemical exports edge down 0.1% to €519.3 million, while exports of business equipment fall 24.5% to €173 million.
On the import side, energy products rise 68.4% to €210.7 million. Business equipment imports increase 21.3% to €278.9 million.
Spain’s trade gap widens
Across Spain, exports grow 3.2% to €264,182 million — a record for January to August. Imports climb faster, rising 6.5% to €310,000 million.
That leaves Spain with a trade deficit of €45,818.2 million, 30.5% larger than a year earlier. The Balearic Islands, by contrast, finish the period with a bigger surplus.
