Palma, Mallorca: Ferry discounts for Balearic residents on regular journeys between the islands leave a 1.35 million-euro compensation bill for the second quarter of 2026. On Friday, 23 October, the Balearic government authorised its minister for the Sea and Water Cycle to approve and commit the spending. The money is intended for Servicios y Concesiones Marítimas Ibicencas, the company that applied the ticket discounts.

The Balearic Directorate-General for Ports and Maritime Transport checked the company’s paperwork and calculated the amount, using a review by the Directorate-General for the Merchant Marine. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said the money would come from the 2025 regional budget, which has been extended into 2026.

The cabinet’s authorisation is required because the expenditure exceeds one million euros. It allows the compensation claim to move forward; it is not an announcement that the company has been paid.
