Balearic film push in London as UK summer visits dip
Peak-season visits by British tourists to the Balearic Islands dip slightly: on Monday, 2 November, regional president Marga Prohens takes a film pitch to London as she seeks to broaden the islands’ economy. At Westminster City Hall, she presents the islands’ audiovisual hub — an initiative to bring film and other screen work to the Balearics — at an event called “Balearic Islands, Culture and Cinema”.
Prohens says British travel to the islands looks much like it did in 2024 and 2025. Arrivals are down a little in the peak season, she says, but travel outside that period is doing well, particularly in March. She links the pattern to her government’s plan to promote culture beyond the summer months.
For Mallorca and the other islands, the film push is also a chance to give local film-makers and artists more exposure across Europe. The London event is held with the Atlàntida Film Festival and forms part of the government’s programme around World Travel Market 2026, which runs in London from 3 to 5 November.
