219 Balearic fishing boats share €147,000 in diesel aid
Across the Balearic Islands, 219 fishing boats are set to share nearly €147,000 in diesel aid as fuel costs rise. The money covers fuel used from 1 May to 30 June. Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has allocated the aid, the central government’s delegation in the Balearic Islands said on Friday, 9 October.
The delegation linked the higher diesel costs to wars in the Middle East. The aid scheme covers eligible periods up to 31 December, but the ministry is paying in shorter instalments to get money out faster and help fishing businesses keep working. Its website lists potential recipients.
Boat owners have a five-day window between 13 and 19 October to report errors, provide bank details or turn down the aid. The ministry also plans another payment in the coming days for fuel used from 22 March to 30 April. It paid most of the aid for that period in August.
