More than 8,240 Balearic health workers will get a share of €16.8 million in back pay with their November wages. Health minister Manuela García announced the payment on Friday, 6 November, after a government meeting in Palma, Mallorca. The Balearic health service, IBSalut, says the money covers a career-related pay supplement owed for the ten months from September 2021 to June 2022.

Back pay reaches €46.1 million

The new payment will bring IBSalut’s total back-pay bill so far to €46.1 million. It paid €16 million at the end of 2024 and a further €13.4 million at the end of last year. The service currently has 11,500 staff whose career progression has been formally recognised.

A simplified process for staff to enter the career progression scheme or move up a level for 2023 to 2025 is still under way.

Manacor hospital needs more support

The government has also authorised IBSalut to arrange a €9.8 million healthcare contract for the Llevant area of Mallorca. It says Manacor Hospital needs to bring in medical support to meet demand.

García pointed to continuing growth in demand for care. IBSalut already uses contracts with private providers to help the public health service meet that demand.
