Balearic housing: union hopes election will curb rents
Balearic housing problems: union leader Pedro Homar hopes Spain’s 29 November election will bring in a parliament willing to limit rents and curb investment funds. Homar, the general secretary of the General Union of Workers (UGT) in the Balearic Islands, backed the early vote on 5 October 2026. He says the previous Friday showed that the government could not push through progressive policies.
Homar says PP, Vox and Junts rarely agree, but all voted against proposals aimed at improving workers’ living conditions. That makes an early election the right decision, he argues.
He hopes a new parliament will tackle housing and other long-standing issues, including limits on rents and curbs on investment funds.
