Skills shortage shapes new Balearic industry plan

A shortage of specialist workers is among the problems facing industry across the Balearic Islands: on Wednesday, 21 October, the regional government’s directors-general meet to consider the first steps for a new industry plan. They also look at proposals that need several government departments to work together.

The meeting follows 11 sessions with businesses and industry associations held from 2 to 9 October, the Balearic Ministry for Business, the Self-Employed and Energy says. Industrial space is another concern. The talks also covered training, innovation, energy efficiency and the use of resources, drawing on interviews and questionnaires as well as the sessions.

Officials will now set the plan’s priorities and hold further talks to work out specific measures. Businesses, industry associations and social partners will remain involved. A first draft is due in November for the sector to review, with the document to be presented in December and approved in early 2027.
