Eleven meetings over five days: Balearic businesses begin shaping a new industry plan on Friday, 2 October. Companies and industry representatives will set priorities and propose joint projects for the Balearic Islands’ 2027–2031 plan. Alfons Gómez, the regional government’s director-general for industry and industrial estates, chairs the talks, which run until 9 October.

The meetings start with an assessment of the industry as it stands. On Monday, representatives from footwear, leather and fashion will join talks covering jewellery, wood and furniture. Tuesday brings in building materials, natural stone, metalworking and construction. Circular economy, waste, water and energy are on Thursday’s agenda. The final meeting, on Friday, 9 October, covers the nautical and maritime industry.

Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the regional minister for business, the self-employed and energy, says the plan should be built around companies’ needs. The government wants it to help industry grow, create quality jobs and make the Balearic economy less reliant on a narrow range of activity.

Government departments will review the proposals on the 20th. An in-person meeting on the 21st will bring the findings together. The department and its appointed consultancy aim to present a first draft in November.
