Balearic Islands lead Spain with 6.2% business growth
In the Balearic Islands, 4,873 businesses register and 2,354 close in the first quarter of 2026: a net growth rate of 6.2%, higher than anywhere else in Spain. The Spanish National Statistics Institute released the figures on Friday, 9 October. The count includes self-employed people and shows 33,427 businesses continuing through the quarter.
Net growth measures the difference between registrations and closures against the total number of businesses. Across Spain, the rate was 0.7% at the end of the first quarter and 1.5% at the end of the second.
The national figures also show changes in employment. In the first quarter, 5.2% of businesses lost their entire workforce. Of those, 13.6% had hired staff again by the end of the second quarter.
