Balearic Islands evictions halve as requests surge

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Across the Balearic Islands, courts carry out 119 evictions in the second quarter of 2026, 51.4% fewer than a year earlier. Unpaid rent is behind 104 of them, figures from Spain’s General Council of the Judiciary show. The tally includes Mallorca but gives no separate figure for the island.

Unpaid rent accounts for most evictions

Ten evictions follow unpaid mortgages, while five have other causes. Compared with the same quarter in 2025, evictions for unpaid rent fall by 49% and those linked to mortgages by 67.7%.

More requests do not mean more evictions

Shared court services receive 1,067 requests to carry out evictions across the islands, up 75.5% on the same quarter last year. The report records a successful outcome for 338 of those requests. But a request does not mean an eviction took place, and not every court district has one of these services. The 1,067 requests therefore cannot be compared directly with the 119 evictions carried out.

The fall extends across Spain: courts carry out 4,474 evictions in the quarter, down 35.7% from a year earlier.
