Balearic Islands: PSOE takes €412m funding plea to vote

Mallorca and the rest of Spain’s Balearic Islands could miss out on an estimated €412 million in extra annual funding in 2027, the PSOE warns. On Tuesday, a joint committee of Spain’s Congress and Senate in Madrid votes on the party’s call for the Balearic and Canary Islands governments to back the central government’s regional funding plan. The vote is on a non-binding motion, not the plan itself.

The PSOE says blocking the plan could mean giving up the estimated increase compared with the current funding model. It puts the Canary Islands’ potential increase at €611 million a year in 2027. Its motion asks both island governments to support the proposal, suggest improvements and avoid blocking it.

The party filed the motion in May 2026. It also calls for work on the new funding model to continue through the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council and talks with Spain’s autonomous communities. When the council considered the government’s proposal in early September, only Catalonia and the Canary Islands voted for it.
