Balearic industry rises 4.2% but year stays down
Industrial output across Spain’s Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, rises 4.2% in September from a year earlier: the year so far remains in decline. Figures from Spain’s National Statistics Institute put the nationwide September rise at 2.5%, leaving the islands 1.7 percentage points ahead.
The September gain does not erase earlier losses. Balearic industrial output is down 2.2% for the year to date, while production across Spain is up 1.5%.
The figures also show a split between types of production. Consumer goods output falls 6% on the islands, including a 3% drop in durable goods and a 6.9% fall in non-durable goods. Capital goods rise 4.2%, intermediate goods 4.5% and energy output 9.9%.
