Balearic Islands add 26,900 jobs as unemployment falls
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, is part of a region with 26,900 more people in work in the third quarter. Unemployment across the islands falls by 10,000 to 34,400. The figures come from the Spanish National Statistics Institute’s Labour Force Survey, published on 27 October 2026.
More people in work
The unemployment rate stands at 4.63%, after a second consecutive quarter of decline. The number of people in work reaches 708,700 — the highest recorded for a third quarter. Compared with a year earlier, the islands have 36,200 more people in work and 6,800 fewer unemployed.
Most of the gains are in private-sector work
Private employers account for 23,000 of the additional jobs; the public sector accounts for 3,900. The number of employees on permanent contracts rises by 26,500. Of the islands’ 610,600 employees, 538,100 have permanent contracts and 72,500 have temporary ones.
Full-time employment rises by 31,200 to 642,900, while the part-time figure falls by 4,300 to 65,800. The survey gives these figures for the Balearic Islands as a whole, not for Mallorca separately.
