Balearic markets get €200,000 for upgrades in 2026

Permanent municipal markets in the Balearics can seek a share of €200,000 for upgrades in 2026. The funding is being offered by the regional Department of Business, Self-Employment and Energy. Town halls that run markets directly, and organisations with an administrative concession to manage them, can apply.

The money is intended to bring markets up to date and improve their quality and competitiveness. Regional minister Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro said the grants would help managers make the spaces more accessible, efficient and suited to current needs.

Up to €40,000 for each applicant

The grants cover 80% of each project’s eligible cost, up to €40,000 per beneficiary. Projects must have eligible costs of at least €2,000, excluding VAT.

Work carried out between 16 September 2025 and 15 October 2026 can qualify. Applications can be submitted through the Autonomous Community’s electronic administrative portal.

Cooling, doors and lower-energy equipment

Eligible spending includes machinery, air-conditioning, lighting, refrigerated lockers, automatic doors and goods transport equipment. Funding can also go towards electric-vehicle charging points and energy-management systems.

The call also covers work to remove architectural barriers and improve accessibility, as well as renovations to shared areas in permanent municipal markets. Energy-saving lighting and food-preservation equipment that cuts energy use are among the investments that can be supported.
