Mallorca-made products get new Balearic origin label
On Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, a new label aims to show shoppers which goods are made entirely on the islands. The Balearic regional government unveiled Producte fet aquí on Wednesday, 30 September. The name means “product made here”, and the label is intended for products made 100% in the Balearics.
It will cover businesses and professionals in sectors including crafts, industry and costume jewellery. Regional president Marga Prohens said it would give more visibility to those who continue to produce on the islands. She pointed to the Balearics’ long industrial and craft tradition and said she wanted those businesses to have more opportunities.
The label is part of a wider push to broaden the islands’ economy. During the current legislative term, the government says it has committed more than €25 million to support industry and construction. Its measures include help for firms to modernise and go digital, while construction businesses can now apply under a funding scheme for major investments.
