In Palma, Mallorca, Xavier Torrens says around 86,000 people across the Balearic Islands have €680 a month to cover basic needs. A further 190,000 people across the islands currently live in poverty. Torrens, president of the anti-poverty network EAPN Baleares, gave the figures to reporters on Friday 16 October.
He named insecure housing and a lack of guaranteed income as the main reasons for poverty in the Balearic Islands.
