Balearic public works tenders fall 8.4% as Spain surges

Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, is part of a fall in public works tendering: the value of contracts put out to bid across the islands drops 8.4% to €186.3 million from January to August 2026 compared with a year earlier. Across Spain, that value rises 26.2% to €26,237 million over the same period. The figures come from the Association of Construction Companies and Infrastructure Concessionaires (Seopan).

Local authorities, including councils and provincial administrations, drive much of Spain’s rise. Their tenders increase 50% to €11,611 million. Central government tenders rise 18.3% to €7,674 million, while those from Spain’s autonomous communities climb 6.2% to €6,952 million. The Balearic Islands move in the opposite direction to each of those national trends.
