Balearic shop sales fall 2.7% as retail jobs grow

Mallorca is part of a Balearic-wide drop in shop sales: retail turnover across the islands falls 2.7% in August compared with a year earlier. Sales are also down 4.8% from the previous month, according to figures released on Tuesday by Spain’s National Statistics Institute.

So far this year, retail sales are 1.7% lower. Jobs are moving the other way: employment in the sector rose 1.6% in August compared with the same month last year.
