Sports federations in Mallorca and across the Balearic Islands are set to receive €1.4 million for everyday running costs. The Balearic Government’s Consell de Govern approved the budget and advance payments in Palma on Friday, 25 September. The money will be split between 2027 and 2028.

The Directorate General for Sports will run the scheme, worth €700,000 in each year. It is aimed at the organisational and structural needs of the non-profit federations that support organised sport across the islands.

The grants can be paid upfront without the federations having to provide guarantees. The government says this reflects their role as partners of the administration, carrying out delegated public functions.

Advance payment is intended to spare smaller bodies and those struggling to obtain credit from using their own funds or outside finance for day-to-day costs. The federations currently manage about 126,499 sporting licences and 1,653 clubs across the archipelago.
