Balearic tax cuts cost €1,540 million, says Prohens
Mallorca: Tax cuts and deductions leave the Balearic government with around €1,540 million less revenue this legislative term, regional president Marga Prohens says in parliament in Palma, Mallorca, on 6 October 2026. She gives the figure in response to a question from Vox spokesperson Manuela Cañadas.
Inheritance tax accounts for most of the total
More than 37,000 families have paid no inheritance tax, accounting for about €1,000 million of the revenue forgone, Prohens says. Another 4,300 families received a reduction of between 35 and 60 per cent, saving more than €100 million.
Around 8,600 people saved almost €170 million in tax on gifts. More than 11,600 people avoided over €120 million in tax on property transfers. Prohens also says about 111,000 people used regional deductions in their 2024 income tax returns, paying nearly €71.5 million less.
Prohens promises to keep inheritance tax off
Prohens says her government has also put €1,500 million more towards improving public resources and cut public debt by €550 million. She contrasts her tax policy with that of Spain’s PSOE–Sumar government, which she accuses of raising taxes.
If she remains in government, Prohens promises that people in the Balearic Islands will “never again” pay tax on an inheritance. Cañadas says voters can choose between the two tax approaches in November’s general election.
