Balearic unemployment rises to 26,547 in September

Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands have 26,547 people registered as unemployed in September 2026, up 841 from August. That is 493 more than in September last year, according to figures released on Friday by Spain’s Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.

Services account for the largest share, with 18,521 people unemployed, 474 more than in August. Construction has 3,463, up 54. Agriculture moves the other way, falling by 16 to 299, while industry rises by seven to 1,194.

The total includes 14,755 women and 11,792 men. Another 3,562 of those registered are under 25. Unemployment among foreign nationals reaches 6,568, up 14.48% from August.

Employers also signed 36,120 contracts across the islands in September, 10.79% more than a year earlier. Of those, 23,340 were permanent and 12,780 were temporary.
