Mallorca's BaleArt: 70 makers and new food stalls
Mallorca hosts 70 craft exhibitors at BaleArt in Palma from 29 October to 1 November: the fair takes over the La Misericordia cultural centre, and entry is free. The exhibitors come from Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Their number is up 75 per cent on last year.
For the first time, food joins the crafts on sale. Honey, liqueurs, coffee and cheese will sit alongside ceramics, baskets, glass, woodwork, leather goods and textiles. The stalls will spread through the gardens and the Pati d’Homes, with work from around a dozen craft fields. The island councils certify the participating makers’ work.
Visitors can watch craftspeople at work and sample products including gató. The Mallorca Island Council’s boatbuilding workshop is taking part, while Ibiza’s Associació Cultural Colla sa Bodega will dress an Ibizan dancer on Sunday.
BaleArt opens from 11.00 to 20.00, except on Sunday, when it closes at 16.00. The Balearic Government organises the fair with the island councils.
