Mallorca ball de bot brings Diada to Palma care home

Residents at the Oms-Sant Miquel care home in Palma watched a ball de bot performance on Sunday. The Agrupació de l'Escola de Música i Danses de Mallorca staged the display as part of the Diada de Mallorca programme.

Mallorca Island Council organised the event. Social Welfare councillor Guillermo Sánchez and Presidency councillor Toni Fuster attended.

Sánchez, who also heads the Mallorca Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), said care homes should be open spaces linked to their surroundings and to the island’s social and cultural life. Activities such as this let older people continue to enjoy festivals and traditions, while making homes places where families, professionals and the public can meet.

Fuster said the Diada offered a chance to bring Mallorca’s culture and traditions to the whole of society. Sharing ball de bot with the residents of Oms-Sant Miquel, he said, showed how the day can also be part of community life.
