Phuket: Barceló opens 202-room second Thailand hotel

Barceló has opened a 202-room resort on Phuket, its second hotel in Thailand. The Occidental Bangtao Beach Resort opened on 15 September on the beachfront at Bang Tao Beach, with direct access to the Andaman Sea.

The four-star property has 202 rooms and suites. Of those, 86 have terraces with direct access to the pool.

The resort’s food and drink options include four venues: a Beach Club Restaurant & Bar serving Italian-Thai food, a buffet restaurant, a pool snack bar and a seafront café. It also has a kids’ club, leisure and wellness facilities, plus four meeting rooms. Its largest hall holds more than 200 people.

The opening follows Barceló Coconut Island and puts another Barceló Hotel Group property on Phuket. The company said Thailand is a strategic market in its growth and international expansion plans.

Barceló runs the hotel under a management contract announced in June. The group uses this model to build its international presence through alliances with local partners and owners.

José Canals, Barceló Hotel Group’s Chief Operating Officer for the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia, called the opening a further step in the company’s Asia strategy, citing the resort’s location, distinctive offer and leisure facilities.
