Barcelona, Spain, counts 130 arrests after Saturday night’s unrest, including 76 minors. In Bilbao, Spain, police arrest 17 people after trouble on Monday, ten of them minors. On Tuesday 27 October 2026, those events fuel a clash between the Spanish government and opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo over who is encouraging violence.

Feijóo, leader of the conservative People’s Party, linked Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to the Barcelona unrest at an event in Salamanca on Sunday. He claimed the Socialists had lost public support and now wanted to set the streets alight.

Government spokeswoman Elma Saiz accused Feijóo of stoking hatred. She condemned the violence in both cities and urged political leaders to act responsibly. Sánchez had already called the Barcelona unrest “sheer vandalism” and said the protests had been stirred up on social media.

The Bilbao arrests followed a protest against an event involving Vito Quiles, who did not turn up. Saiz said police should be left to investigate the violence. She did not say whether foreign interference played any part.
