Barcelona boat show expects over 200 boats at Port Vell
More than 200 boats are expected on the water and on land at Port Vell in Barcelona, Spain, for the city’s boat show. On Thursday, 15 October, Spain’s industry and tourism minister Jordi Hereu visits the 63rd edition and points to the businesses behind the boats. The show expects more than 170 exhibitors and runs until 18 October.
Hereu says boatbuilding is only part of the picture. Maintenance firms, component makers and designers also depend on the industry. He says Spain’s ports give boating a role in broadening tourism along the country’s coasts.
Catalonia’s business minister Miquel Sàmper also highlights the “blue economy”, linking it to European sustainability goals. Acció, the Catalan government’s business competitiveness agency, has identified 1,078 companies in that field in Catalonia. This year’s show also includes boating leisure activities and water sports.
