Phone in sand leads to Can Picafort beach robbery arrests

A mobile phone left in the sand has led police to two arrests after an alleged beach robbery in Can Picafort, Mallorca, early on 15 September. Three young people — two women and a man — suffered minor injuries when two men allegedly attacked them on the beach. The Guardia Civil and Santa Margalida Local Police made the arrests.

The men had approached the group asking for alcohol and a cigarette, according to the Guardia Civil. After they were refused, they allegedly became aggressive, wrestled with the three young people and took their belongings before running away.

One of the alleged attackers dropped his own mobile phone during the struggle. The victims found it and saw a clear image of a suspect’s face on its lock screen before calling 112. Officers searching nearby found the two men minutes later on beach sun loungers. The victims identified them and the pair were taken to a police station.
