Mallorca beer row over Es Jardí’s 400 ml pours

A €6 beer advertised as 400 ml has sparked a consumer dispute at Es Jardí in Palma. The Balearic Consumers’ Association, Consubal, says the cup used to serve it may hold less than the amount listed on the menu. It wants the venue checked on site.

Consubal has criticised the Balearic Government’s Consumer Inspection and Market Surveillance Service for closing its complaint and sending the case to the Catalan Consumer Agency. The file was passed on because the reusable cup’s manufacturer is based in Lleida.

The association says that misses the point. Its complaint is not about who made the cup, but whether Es Jardí is selling less beer than the 400 ml customers are charged for.

Es Jardí rejects the allegation. It says its reusable cups have the right capacity to hold the 400 ml of beer advertised on its menu.

Consubal is still demanding a practical check: measure the cup, examine how the beer is poured and establish the amount customers actually receive.
