Palma: Bellver playground faces removal, PSOE says

Palma’s PSOE says Mayor Jaime Martínez is dismantling the playground in Bellver Park in Palma, calling the move harmful to children and families. Socialist council spokesman Francesc Dalmau made the accusation on Tuesday, 15 September 2026. He said the loss of the play area would be unacceptable for Mallorca’s capital.

The park has existed for more than 30 years, Dalmau said, offering shade and play space for families. He argued that Palma needs more areas like it.

Dalmau also accused Martínez of applying a double standard. He claimed the mayor penalises neighbours who complain about restaurant noise in La Lonja in Palma, while removing playground equipment because the sound of children playing is considered a nuisance.

He called the removal of children’s facilities from Bellver Park a serious matter.
