Mallorca BiciPalma: 40% of docks fail in Pere Garau
Four in ten BiciPalma bike docking points in Pere Garau, Palma, are out of action, making the public bike-hire service harder to use. On 3 September, the neighbourhood platform Flipau amb Pere Garau called for repairs to be made a top priority. It says stations fill up at night but lack bikes during the day, complicating journeys for different groups of workers.
Three stations hit hardest
At Aragó/Nuredduna, nine of 21 docking points are not working. Benet Pons i Fábregues has seven failures out of 24, while Faust Morell/Pere Garau has eight out of 15.
About 33,000 people live in Pere Garau, according to the platform, yet the neighbourhood has room for only 60 bikes in total. It says stations at Park Wifi, Balmes and Josep Darder Metge have similar problems with broken docking points.
Call for faster repairs and more bikes
Flipau amb Pere Garau welcomed Palma City Council's expansion of BiciPalma into other neighbourhoods. But it says the existing network needs swift maintenance to keep the service reliable, adding that shortages of spare parts should be anticipated.
The platform is now demanding more stations and/or bikes for Pere Garau, saying the current provision cannot give the neighbourhood an adequate service.
