A motorcyclist rode faster than permitted on the hard shoulder of the motorway bypass in Manacor, Mallorca, on Saturday. When National Police officers signalled for him to stop, the biker wove between other vehicles and initially got away. Officers later arrested him after finding he had no driving licence and the motorcycle had no valid insurance.

The officers were on a crime-prevention patrol when the large-engined motorcycle passed them on the hard shoulder. They used lights and sirens, then a megaphone, but the rider did not stop, police said.

Officers noted the registration plate and tattoos on the suspect’s back. Police databases then helped them identify him.

The man, who is of Colombian origin, was arrested on suspicion of serious disobedience and an offence against road safety.
